Lynn was the loving, and dearly loved, wife of Bob for 61 years. She was the wise and dedicated mother of Brenda and Paul Tackey, and Bob and Denise Ellis, and the very proud and supportive grandmother of Ben, Libby (Ryan), Rob, and Catey.
Lynn was raised in Hamilton’s north end as the eldest child of Jim and May Greenaway, alongside her brothers Jim (Jeannette) (Kathy predeceased) and Doug (Irene). She attended Robert Land Public School and then Central Secondary School and it was there, at the age of 15, where she met the love of her life, Bob. Following high school, Lynn graduated from Hamilton Teachers’ College and married Bob. She is survived by his sister Harriett (Bob) Moody, and predeceased by his parents, Bob and Doris Ellis, and his sisters Doris (Tom) Goodwin and Jean (Roy) Kirk. She also leaves behind loved nieces, nephews, and cousins from both sides of her family, and many friends.
Lynn was a lifelong learner and undertook part-time post secondary studies when in her forties. She graduated from the University of Western Ontario (with straight A’s!) in 1988. She had three careers during her life, both before she had children and after they had grown; teacher, real estate agent, and property manager of an ONPHA residence for seniors. She excelled at all three but as her family will attest, her best roles were that of wife, mother, and grandmother.
Lynn found herself relocating with her family from Hamilton/Burlington to Simcoe, in 1978, and remained there for 45 years. Last year she and Bob returned to their Hamilton roots and moved into Deerview Crossing Retirement Home. While in Simcoe, Lynn was actively involved in the community. She and Bob became members of St Paul’s Presbyterian Church and Lynn sang in the choir and served on many committees. Together, they went on a mission trip to Guatemala. It is in Simcoe where she also took up the sport of curling, served the Norfolk County Fair as the Gate Coordinator for over 20 years, and joined Beta Sigma Phi Sorority where she was named “Girl of the Year”. A love of camping and the outdoors was instilled in Lynn during her childhood and she and Bob had many adventures together with their children, and in their later years. She loved to travel and learn about the world, and was an avid reader, and talented knitter and seamstress. To her family, she was one of a kind and will be dearly missed. And to Bob, she was his Girl of the Year, every year.
