She was born January 24, 1951, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, So. Charleston, WV. Her parents, Raymond and Lola (Harris) Fridley predeceased her, along with her sister-in-law, Marilyn “Susie” Fridley and brother-in-law, Arnold “TJ” Johnson.
Sharon was a life member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church and gave freely of her time and resources.
Sharon graduated from the West Virginia School for the Blind at Romney, Class of 1969. She received her under graduate degree from Concord College, and earned two Masters Degrees from the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies. She developed lifelong friends at each stage of education. She was employed thirty-two years by the West Virginia Department of Rehabilitation Services for the Blind, until her retirement.
Sharon never let her blindness hinder her in anything she wanted to accomplish. She had a bubbly personality and brought joy to everyone who knew her. She loved music and singing and during her younger years played the saxophone at the school for the Blind and at Concord College. She loved history and was a recipient of the West Virginia Knights of the Golden Horseshoe Pin. She was also a great fan of football and had an encyclopedic knowledge of the National Football League Teams. She enjoyed trains along with her mother and they took many railroad trips during the fall season.
Her family extends a very special thank you to her Pastor Stephen Anderson and his wife, Sarah. We also wish to thank the nurses, aides and staff at Clark’s Christian Care Home and the Hospice nurses and social workers who cared for her.
Sharon is survived by her brother, Lloyd Fridley of Scott Depot, WV and her sister, Jan Johnson of Charleston, WV.
Following her wishers, her body will be cremated and there will be no funeral or memorial service.
Sharon said: “I want to be remembered sitting in church praising the LORD.”
