History of Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home
Prior to 1950, the MacRae family founded a funeral home Sydney Mines and in 1952, the business was sold to Charles E. Fillmore. Mr. Fillmore worked with Paul Whitman to establish the current location of Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home. Mr. Whitman became co-owner in 1954 and managed the funeral home with great dedication until he sold the business and retired in 1982.

The well-established facilities were extensively renovated by the new owner soon after purchase. The next year, a satellite location opened in scenic Ingonish in northern Cape Breton. This site serves families living in the many communities north of Smokey.

Fillmore & Whitman funeral home has offered funeral services from the same location in Sydney Mines for almost 60 years. Mr. Whitman operated his funeral home with a high standard of moral and professional ethics, and today, everyone at Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home is proud to be associated with a firm that has provided quality services for more than a half century.
