History of Markey-Dermody Funeral Home
In 1971, William Markey purchased the two P.X. Dermody Funeral Homes in Hamilton from William Dermody. The funeral homes were located at 7 East Avenue South and 1919 King Street East. Upon the death of William Markey in 1978, his wife, Mary, and son, Chris, continued the operation of the funeral homes.

It soon became apparent that to better serve a growing number of families, either the facilities would have to be expanded or a new one would have to be built. It was decided that the best option would be to build a new funeral home. In 1987, the new Markey-Dermody Funeral Home was completed and opened for business. The funeral home features a warm, friendly appearance, both inside and out, so that the families we serve will feel as comfortable as if they were in their own homes. The facility is completely handicapped-accessible and features a children’s play area near the coffee lounge.

In 1994, Markey-Dermdoy Funeral Home was purchased by an affiliate of Service Corporation International. Today, we are a proud member of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers.
