Mike Flotte, age 39, a beloved son, brother, and friend passed away after a lengthy illness on May 12th, 2024 in Dallas, Texas with his family by his bedside. He was born on July 6, 1984 in Dallas, Texas to Valentin and Lucila Flotte. Mike, like his oldest sister Elizabeth, graduated from the prestigious DISD’s School for the Talented and Gifted at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview in 2002. He attended the University of Texas at Dallas to study electrical engineering, before deciding he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and become an American entrepreneur.
Mike always had a passion for the food and hospitality business. To learn the business he served as a bartender and server with multiple national food brands including Uncle Julio’s, Liberty Burger and more. During his tenure at Uncle Julio’s he was deployed to the east coast to expand the national chain by training new bartenders and servers. He led a team that opened up several high-performing restaurants in Tennessee. During that time he was also given accolades for inventing new drinks that were featured on the national menu.
True to his upbringing, his altruism was sincere. During his free time, he volunteered as a policeman for the Whitewright, Texas Police Department. He truly embodied “service before self.”
Mike will always be remembered for his selfless attitude and for being a stand up family man. Mike was always willing to sacrifice his own personal endeavors to serve his family as he did for our sister, Elizabeth, during her battle with ALS. He served not only as a caregiver but also helped raise her newborn son, Nelson, during that extremely difficult time. Mike also loved and was very close to our mother, Lucila Flotte. In retrospect, it’s only fitting that he joined our mom in heaven on Mother’s Day as she adored him tremendously. Mike will be extremely missed and we love him a lot.
Our brother is preceded in death by his mom, Lucila Flotte, and his sister, Elizabeth Flotte Gonzalez. He is survived by his father, Valentin Flotte and,his two sisters, Erika Godinez and Bianca Gonzalez and numerous nephews and nieces: Nicolas Gonzalez, Cristian Godinez, Vladimir Gonzalez, Nelson Gonzalez, Carina Godinez and Daniela Gonzalez.
Until we meet again. Always, forever with our hearts broken – your family.
