After graduating from high school, he entered the Air Force and served his country during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he attended West Virginia University and obtained a B.S. in Business Administration. He later completed a Master of Public Administration degree at Pennsylvania State University.
He started his professional career in finance working for US Steel in Ellwood City, PA. It was here he met his beloved wife, Judith Ann Burr, and they were married on August 13, 1960. Earl held several management positions in both industry and the public sector, including with Celanese, Welch’s, State College, PA city government, and Juniata College before retiring as the business manager for the Eastern Lancaster County School District in New Holland, PA. Earl contributed to his community wherever he lived, including through his church, local Lions Clubs, and on library boards, including leading fundraising efforts to construct a new library in New Holland. After retiring to Loveland, CO, he was especially active with the “Trinity TUMBROS,” the men’s service group with his church, and Habitat for Humanity.
He loved tennis, golf, outdoor pursuits, travel, finance, his family, and daily walks with his dog Molly. He led his family on wilderness canoe trips and other expeditions through his involvement with the Allegheny Canoe Club. He especially enjoyed time spent with family at the cottage he helped build along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River near Karthaus, PA. He graciously tolerated going antiquing with his family.
Earl was a man of great integrity who graced those who knew him with his kindness, intelligence, and quiet humor.
