She was born on January 21, 1928, in Argenta, IL, the daughter of Earl and Myrtle (Ford) Gisinger. Bonnie eloped with Phillip W. South on December 30, 1947, in Charleston, IL. He preceded her in death on January 26, 2011.
Bonnie graduated from Steven Decatur High School. She went on to work as a CNA at Madison County Shelter Care for over 20 years. Bonnie was a member of the Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Queen City Chapter. She and Phillip liked to travel and just get up and go. They travelled to the United Kingdom three times. Bonnie also travelled to Russia with Shirlene, to bring back Shirlene’s two youngest children. She was a faithful Methodist who loved chatting with friends, and was interested in family history, watching her grandkids’ games, and going to Highland games in Stone Mountain, GA and Grandfather Mountain, NC. Bonnie was a loving wife of 64 years, as well as a loving mother and grandmother.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Earl, John, Sam, and Noel Gisinger.
Bonnie is survived by her daughters, S. (M.) Roseland and Shirlene South; sons, David (Barb) South and John (Audrey) South; grandchildren, Lenora and Keenan Mills, Tim South, Cairen, Amy, Jamie Dee, Jenny, Jamie, and Brea’Ana; five great-grandchildren; five nieces; and one nephew.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL.
Graveside Ceremony: 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024, at Pine Tree Cemetery in Patterson, IL.
