Valleyview Funeral Home was established in 1975 as Days & Garden Chapel on Bernard Avenue in Kelowna, British Columbia. In 1976, owner Murray Kyle selected a location for a new funeral home to be constructed on Valleyview Road, which is how the funeral home acquired its current name. At that time, the location offered an open view of Kelowna and the valley, with little construction in existence to the west, and provided easy access to both City Cemetery and Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The design of the new funeral home was chosen for the unique feature of its central courtyard. Construction began in late 1976 and the official opening was held on July 1, 1977. All clergy in the Kelowna area were invited to attend the opening ceremonies, which were followed by a musical program featuring several local singers and musicians.
Kelowna’s first indoor columbarium was added to Valleyview Funeral Home in 1986, and was a popular feature. Within our central courtyard in the middle of our building is our beautiful scattering garden set against a backdrop of flowers and featuring statues and a bench for reflection.
In 1989, Valleyview Funeral Home was purchased by an affiliate of Service Corporation International. Today, we are a proud member of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers.
